Our History

We’ve traveled many miles since the early days, and made a lot of friends along the way.

  • 1952

John Lynch Sr returned from the Army Air Core with a wife and two children and little job experience to speak of. While he was away, John’s wife Elinor befriended their upstairs neighbors in their Milwaukee duplex. Merle Humphrey lived upstairs and offered the young vet a job beginning his career in the automotive business selling parts from a truck driving around the State of Wisconsin for Humphrey Chevrolet. Eventually he became a parts counter person and shortly thereafter a parts manager. The Humphreys recognized his work ethic and integrity and he was promoted to service and parts director at Humphrey Chevrolet in Milwaukee.

  • 1957

The Humphrey organization offered John the opportunity to buy into their automotive dealership in Burlington, WI. After being turned down by nearly every bank in Burlington and Racine, Burlington’s local bank, The Bank of Burlington lent John and David the money with the following advice, “As long as you don’t take up drinking, gambling and women, you will be successful.”

  • 1965

Humphrey purchased by John Lynch, Sr and son David. John Lynch, Sr and his son David Lynch purchased the remaining business and the business continued to grow under their leadership. They rename the dealership John Lynch Chevrolet-Pontiac Sales, Inc.

  • 1975

David Lynch opens Lynch Display Vans (LDV). David Lynch was at a cocktail party in Kenosha, WI and was asked if he would stock step vans for Snap-on Tools. At that time there were several up fitters around the country that supplied Snap-on with vans. David reinvested and started a new company called Lynch Display Vans (LDV), which today is the largest specialty vehicle manufacturer in the country and a major provider of Snap-on trucks and vans.
